Blood Pressure

I have to track my blood pressure. There's a snow storm coming, and I have to take my blood pressure.

There's people picking fights with eachother on Reddit, and ICE shot a man to death who was laying face down in a street and I have to take my blood pressure.

I had a cyst removed off my left shin on Thursday, but then I leaked blood all night long so Friday I went in to get stitches. Then I accidentally hammered the wound with the vacuum cleaner this afternoon and I can't really take pain relievers because of my heart medicine.

I have a nice life. It's comfortable. I've worked hard to make a place for me and mine, and that no longer feels safe. But I'm going to make pizza tonight, and then mask up and go to a fashion circus performance, and not let myself give into the temptation to buy a gun.

But I have to take my blood pressure.

my brother in law is Philippino/Chinese American. he and my sister live in Phoenix. they're both terrified every time he leaves the house. he carries his passport, but without the expectation that will save him. they have a safe word, and she has phone numbers on speed-dial for the police, local media, and all 5 of his brothers. they don't know how else to protect him, or if all that will be enough or even adequate if something happens.

nobody should have to live like that. hearing what Megan and James are doing makes this personal for me, but it didn't need to be personal to be absolutely gutting, and NOBODY should be having to live like this

I'm in my late 40s. I present as a bald, white, cis man. I am the epitome of western privilege. And yet I find myself looking for avenues of escape whenever I see an SUV with tinted windows.

yeah. and Albuquerque can be a bit of a powder keg sometimes. i have never been happier to live not just in the woods, but also far away from any sizeable cities.
