farm musings

It's wintertime, so we aren't getting as many eggs from our chickens. That means we can switch back to having hummus for breakfast, which I enjoy, and which is healthier than eating eggs every day for months at a go.

I'm starting to worry a bit about my health. I'm drinking more than 2 units of alcohol on a almost daily basis, and I need to stop.

I want to get back on my bike. I need to start making time to just hop on my trainer for like 5 minutes.

My arms don't hurt as bad, but typing is still pretty painful.

I haven't used this journal format in a while, and I tend to write all my updates in a private cloud app, but I think I'd like to resume typing things up here. Even if I don't really get much interaction, it's nice to have this venue as an alternative to Facebook.

i was in a similar boat with alcohol until recently; 2 a night almost every night, three regularly enough that i didn't want to think too hard about it but also felt bad about it. and i think it increases my depression and inclination toward hopelessness. when i started dating Leslie, who is sober, i necessarily stopped drinking on nights i see them - and since i'm seeing them 1-2 times a week, that actually made a surprising amount of difference fast. in 5 months i find that i am now having one drink 2-4x/week and that feels like an enormous reduction and corresponding improvement to my health.

not that "start dating a sober person" is broadly applicable life advice or anything. but maybe there's something that can help you change the pattern.

it utterly fucks my ability to maintain deep rest.

Oh man do I feel that. My digestive system mostly made the choices for me but hooboy do I know when I decide to ignore that. Sleep like crap for multiple reasons. I got myself a Fitbit in early spring and I can literally chart sleep disturbances.

Yeah, I got one of the older ones that are less invasive and even then when I turn the GPS app on for stuff, it's pretty disconcerting. I say, carrying a cellphone everywhere. I should ask my husband about Fitbits at his office. I know he can't bring in his phone.

yes, it can definitely have that effect. metering is a good idea.

may i recommend kava tea to support deep rest? it also can make you a little loopy, which may provide a little bit of the (i presume desired) numbing effect of alcohol.
